Colombia La Hormiga – a Family Farm from San Agustín
INFO
La Hormiga, owned by Aura Rita Bolaños, is a small one-hectare family farm located in the mountainous area of San Agustín in Colombia’s Huila region, at an elevation of 1,780–1,810 metres above sea level. Volcanic soils, a humid mountain climate and slow cherry ripening create coffees with a balanced, clean and complex flavour profile.
Aura Rita runs the farm together with her husband and son. She grew up in a coffee-growing family and, over recent years, has significantly refined both cultivation and post-harvest practices, with a strong focus on careful cherry selection and consistent processing.
Coffee from La Hormiga is processed using the traditional washed method. After 18–24 hours of fermentation, it is slowly dried for 18–22 days on raised drying beds under cover. This gentle process helps preserve clarity, sweetness and an elegantly structured flavour profile.
Although La Hormiga is a small farm, its coffees reflect the exceptional care of the entire family. The result is a coffee that faithfully expresses the character of San Agustín – a region known for elegant coffees with lively acidity, delicate sweetness and remarkable clarity.
