Rwanda Birembo – elegance from the Nyamasheke region.
My station Birembo is located in the Macuba sector in the Nyamasheke district in western Rwanda. It was established in 2013 and is operated by C. Dorman Rwanda. It sits at an altitude of about 1,500 m above sea level and collaborates with more than 500 smallholder farmers who cultivate the Bourbon variety, typical for this region.
The coffee is processed using the fully washed method. After careful sorting, fermentation takes place for 12–15 hours, followed by drying on raised African beds. Due to the strict control of the process and the quality background of the station, a very clean, balanced cup with a delicate sweetness and pleasant structure is created.
The station is involved in UTZ, Rainforest Alliance, and C.A.F.E. Practices certifications and long-term supports local farmers through training and technical assistance. The result is elegant Rwandan coffee that shines particularly in filtered brewing methods and offers a typical, clean character of western Rwanda.
The result is elegant Rwandan coffee with a delicate sweetness, clean cup, and pleasant complexity. It is especially suited for filtered brewing methods where its precise character and typical terroir of western Rwanda are highlighted.
