Jasmine pearl tea, known in China as Mo Li Zhen Zhu, is among the most famous and sought-after teas. Its origin traces back to Fujian province, specifically to the Fuzhou area and the surrounding mountainous tea gardens, where the cultivation and processing of jasmine teas has become an art passed down from generation to generation.
The production begins with the harvest of high-quality green tea leaves in spring, which are then carefully stored until the jasmine season starts in summer. Once the jasmine bushes bloom, freshly picked jasmine flowers are mixed with tea leaves in the evening. At night, the flowers slowly open and release their natural fragrance, which permeates the tea leaves. This process is repeated over several consecutive nights to give the tea a rich yet harmonious aroma.
The leaves are then hand-rolled into small pearls, a labor-intensive task that requires considerable skill. When brewed, these pearls unfold and release a delicate, fragrant infusion. In the cup, Jasmine Pearl has a light golden-green color, an elegant floral aroma, and a smooth, sweet taste that combines the freshness of green tea with the subtle sweetness of jasmine.
